Cherokee County has some great 4-H Clubs. All of our clubs are open to youth ages 5-18, except for our Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club and 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club. Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club is open to grades 6-12. 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club is open to all youth ages 12-18. All of our 4-H clubs are free to enroll in. If there is no club that your child is interested in, please give us a call, and we will talk to you about other ways to be involved in 4-H. Or if you would like to start a 4-H club, we would love to have new 4-H adult volunteers.
Cherokee County 4-H Clubs Meeting Times; Enrollment Is Open Year-Round
The Cherokee County 4-H Horse Club has a primary goal of teaching youth everything horse-related. Youth interested in joining should be 5 as of January 1 of the enrolling year and no older than 18 as of January 1 of the enrolling year. Youth who want to enroll in the club do not have to own or even ride a horse, but they should have an interest in horses. The club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Education Annex, adjacent to the Koneheta Veterans Park office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699B Connahetta Street, Murphy.
The Cherokee on the Fly 4-H Club has a new volunteer leader and is back to monthly meetings. Cherokee on the Fly 4-H Club has started back with some additional focus areas to go along with fly tying and fly fishing. We will still be learning about fly tying and fishing, but we will be more of an outdoor skills and adventure club. We will combine traditional skills like fly fishing, sport fishing, hunting, and trapping to develop curious, skilled youth who foster conservation of natural resources and safety. The club is free to join. Youth do not need to know anything about fly fishing or outdoor activities to join the club. The club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00PM, at the Extension Education Annex, adjacent to the Koneheta Veterans Park office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699B Connahetta Street, Murphy. All youth in grades 5-12, whether they attend a public school or are homeschooled, are welcome to join.
The Bunnies, Bovines, Bees, & Birds 4-H Club focuses on teaching youth about livestock animals, honey bees, and other animals other than horses(we have a horse club if you would like to join it as well). Youth do not have to own animals to attend meetings. The club is open to all youth ages 5-18. Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. The club meets at the Extension Education Annex, adjacent to the Koneheta Veterans Park office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699B Connahetta Street, Murphy. Youth will learn about caring for their animals or bees, how to show animals if they choose to show their animals, how to keep honey bees, and much, much more.
The 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Education Annex, adjacent to the Koneheta Veterans Park office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699B Connahetta Street, Murphy. This club is open to youth ages 12-18. This club focuses on being creative with crafts, learning cooking skills, and giving back through community service. Youth will create projects to enter regional fairs and contests. We will focus on 4-H presentations and community service projects.
