Collapse ▲Jacob Adam, owner of Adam Farms Processing offered a tour of the facility as part of an informational session on the new Venison Donation program in Cherokee County, which launched September, 2024. The coordinator of the program, Marlana Baker, Local Food/FCS Extension Agent, gave an overview of the program and how local hunters could participate.
Licensed hunters may donate field-dressed deer (full or quartered), that are harvested legally, this season to Adam Farms Processing in Marble, NC. The donated deer will then be processed free of charge (made possible by NC Hunters for the Hungry). These donations will directly benefit local food pantries and the families who are in need and work towards a goal of decreasing food insecurity in Cherokee County. A list of local food pantries are on call to pick up donations as they are available.
Participating pantries include:
- Andrews Food Bank
- Bellview Community Center Food Distribution
- Cherokee County Sharing Center
- Moore House Ministry
- Murphy United Methodist: Soul Table
If you are a coordinator of a feeding program in Cherokee County that would like to participate, please call our office at: (828)837-2210 ext. 5 to be placed on the list.
Jacob Adam concluded the tour with generously giving participants samples of sausage and jerky.
