Collapse ▲The NC Chapter of the Wildlife Society will be awarding a scholarship for 3 deserving kids to attend one of the 2019 4H Fur Fish and Game Rendezvous Camps at Camp Millstone, Ellerbe, NC. Beginning Camp and Advanced Camp are both July 21-26, 2019. The Susan Sharpe memorial scholarship was established in honor of Susan Sharpe who died of cancer in 2005. Susan was a strong supporter of outdoor recreation opportunities for youth.
This scholarship will cover $250 of the camp registration cost of $440 (the camper will be responsible for the other $190). All other expenses associated with attending camp will be the responsibility of the student. More information about the camp and registration information can be found on the Millstone 4-H Camp website.
To apply, please submit an essay of 500 words or less describing why you are interested in attending the Fur Fish and Game Rendezvous. You can include information on your interest in wildlife, previous experiences you may have had with wildlife conservation or recreation, and what you hope to do with the knowledge and skills you will gain. In addition, please propose a project that you will pledge to complete within 6 months of the end of camp. We are looking for project ideas that will demonstrate the skills that you learn, show a commitment to wildlife conservation, or help to spread the love of wildlife and the outdoors to others. Project ideas could include: helping with a habitat improvement project; building and putting up bird houses; giving a presentation about your experience to other students; taking a friend who is not familiar with the outdoors on a hike, camping trip, fishing trip, etc; organizing a wild foods supper for family and friends; or any other idea you come up with. The application should include your name, age, address, phone, and email. Also please indicate whether you are applying for Beginning Camp (11-16 years of age) or Advanced Camp (13-16 years of age) and whether or not you have attended Fur, Fish, and Game Camp previously.
This application should be emailed to Terry Sharpe by June 14, 2019. Winners will need to register for the camp separately at the web site above. Award decisions will be made shortly after. For questions about this scholarship, please contact Terry by email.
If you would like to apply and need help to cover the remaining cost, scholarships are available through Cherokee County 4-H, for Cherokee County youth, for N.C. 4-H Camp activities. Please contact Shannon Coleman if you need more information or plan to apply for the above scholarship, shannon_coleman@ncsu.edu or 828-837-2210 ext. 4.
