Parents Learn Preserving!

A food preservation workshop was held for parents of children ages 0-5 on canning crushed tomatoes. The parents were able to attend the class at the Region A: Partnership for Children office, while their children engaged in a nutrition lesson, led by director Monica Matthews.

Participants gained hands-on knowledge in food safety, approved equipment, the boiling water canning process, and where to find tested recipes from Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent, Marlana Baker.  Parents commented they enjoyed engaging in the hands on canning workshop and "learning a new and necessary life lesson". Each individual left the workshop with tomatoes and jars of their own to gain independence with the new skill.
