Merlin Bird ID During Migration Season

Now that migration season is in full swing, use the MERLIN Bird ID application from Cornell to be more aware of feathered friends who are visiting our area.

Users can use tools to describe what they have seen, and also post a photo for analysis. That is, if a photo was even successfully captured. The app also includes a tool for identifying birds by recording their sounds, which is helpful because the creatures can be difficult to spot.

Once you know which species are present, it is easier to know what to look for to actually see them. You can also determine what types of food will appeal to your guests, and more. I recently heard an owl right outside my window, but I could not catch a glimpse that time.

The application can also store a list of your sightings, or "hearings," if you choose.

In addition, Birdcast is a comprehensive dashboard for bird watching enthusiasts that provides information about the ongoing migration season. Data is broken down county by county in the United States.

Autumn is one of the best times of the year to be immersed in nature, and bird watching is an appealing way to appreciate the outdoors. The Merlin Bird ID app presents an opportunity to use technology to support your own wellbeing by getting you out and about in the fresh air. Why not use MERLIN all year long, not just during migration seasons ?
Keep looking up !
