4-H Presentations are an important part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn how to do a public speech. It focuses on members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter. They are sometimes called demonstrations or illustrated talks or a formal speech.  The speech/presentation should be between 5 and 12 minutes. District winners compete at the state level. State winners in sponsored categories receive cash awards! In specific categories, the State-winning seniors may go on to compete at the National level.

The 4-H Presentation Program is a cornerstone of the Beyond Ready 4-H Initiative, which prepares young people with the communication and leadership skills they need to succeed in life. This initiative emphasizes the development of essential life skills—such as public speaking, critical thinking, organization, and confidence—that help youth become workforce-ready, community-minded, and future-focused.

Four youth from Cherokee County 4-H presented this year at the West District 4-H Activity Day on June 21st.  Eli Setless, Cole Kimbrell, and the team of Carlie James and Kaelyn Hedden.  All four of the youth won gold medals in their categories and will present again at the State 4-H Presentations competition.  The competition was held at AB Tech in Asheville.

Eli won the Gold Medal for his presentation in the Digital Reality, senior 14-18,  category.  His presentation was about online learning and the pro's and con's of it. Eli will attend 4-H Congress and State 4-H Presentations to compete once again with his gold medal presentation.

Cole Kimbrell won the Gold Medal for his presentation in thePoultryProduction,  junior 11-13,  category.  His presentation was about raising backyard chicken flocks.  Cole will attend the State 4-H Presentations competition to against other youth from across the state.

Carlie James and Kaelyn Hedden won the Gold Medal for their presentation as a team in the senior 14 -18, Careers and Entrepreneurship category.  Their presentation was on the career of a stay at home mom. Carlie and Kaelyn will attend 4-H Congress and State 4-H Presentations to compete against other gold and silver medal presentations. 

All four of these 4-H'ers are members of the 4-H Cooking, Crafting, and Community Club here in Cherokee County.  We wish them the best as they compete at State 4-H Presentations.
