How to Become a Certified NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer in Cherokee County in 2024
The Extension Master Gardener certification program has been updated for 2024. The program consists of a 4 step process, which includes attending an informational meeting, participating in the Spring Series Garden Classes, submitting an application, and attending the Fall Certification Classes. The Spring Garden Classes are open for anyone to attend. Registration links, costs, and a more detailed explanation of the process are below.
1.) Attend one of the 4 Information Sessions (sign up for one session by clicking the date.):
2.) Attend the Spring Garden Classes below (only one can be missed to be eligible to attend the Extension Master Gardener certification class in the fall:
The Spring Garden Classes are open to the public (anyone can attend) and also serve as a foundation for understanding research-based home gardening and horticultural practices for prospective Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers. Prospective Extension Master Gardener trainees can miss only 1 of the spring garden series classes. There is a $90.00 fee (online credit card payments only and no refunds) to attend 1 or all the classes. The fee includes access to attend all the training classes, hands-on activities, and lifetime access to the online information of the “Extension Gardener” through TopHat.

Each class will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Participants can bring a bag lunch and drink. There will be a refrigerator available. The classroom session will be from 10 to noon and the hands on will occur during the onsite lunch until 2 p.m.

3.) Submit Your application by August 1, 2024:

4.) Submit the application fee of $95.00 through Eventbrite and Complete the Extension Master Gardener certification classes beginning September 10, 2024: (The Eventbrite link will be sent directly to participants who completed the spring garden series classes.) The cost includes a $50.00 one-time fee to the NC State Extension Master Gardeners, name tag, lifetime access to the online course materials, and hands-on activities. The Extension Master Gardener certification classes will begin September 2024 and end October 2024.
5.) Follow and understand the program guidelines and volunteer with N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center:

**Internet access and a laptop will be necessary to complete the course. If you do not have internet it will be available at the Cherokee County Center 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
