Collapse ▲Bailey and Sullivan have been around for a considerable amount of time. Bailey II should perform as well or better than Bailey in terms of disease reaction and yield. Vine growth of Bailey II is likely to be similar to Bailey. The primary difference between Bailey and Bailey II is the high oleic trait expressed in Bailey II. Emery is the newer variety that people will be growing in 2021 (considering that we know much about Bailey II through production of Bailey.) Emery has less resistance to soil-borne pathogens but it is still in the ballpark with Bailey II and Sullivan. Emery has larger pods than Bailey II that are similar in size to Sullivan. Emery pods might be slightly larger than Sullivan but not as large as Wynne. It has more vine growth than Sullivan but may not be as vigorous as Bailey II. Maturity of Bailey II, Emery and Sullivan will be essentially the same. Emery has yielded well in most research trials. Over the next few years Bailey II, Emery and Sullivan will be the predominant varieties. NC-20 and Walton will be readily available in a few years and likely will make important contributions to our selection of Virginia market type varieties we grow in the Virginia-Carolina region.
