Collapse ▲Annually, the U.S Forest Service, in cooperation with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service 4-H Program, sponsor a fun-filled day of fishing on the first Saturday in June, but this year there is a change and fishing will be on May 18, 2019. The change was made so the special needs fishing derby could be held the day before, which makes it easier on sponsors and volunteers to help at the event.
All children ages 12 and under are invited to test their skills at the fishing derby, will be held at Cherokee Lake from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Pre-registration can be made at the U.S. Forest Service office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration at the site will begin at 7 and will end at 9 a.m.
All children attending the event must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A hot dog lunch, drinks, and fishing bait will be provided, but each participant will need to bring their own fishing pole.
