Our first year of showing rabbits at the Cherokee County Fair. L-R: Taylor Hardin(6), Natalie King(6), Madison King(8), Lexis King(9), Ryan Simonds(13), and Volunteer Leader Preston Mashburn, not pictured Co-volunteer leader Calvin Mashburn.

This year was the Cherokee County 4-H Rabbit Club’s first year of existence and its first year of showing rabbits at the Cherokee County Fair. Five youth were able to come and show this year and they did an outstanding job. Youth were judged in age categories 5-8(Cloverbud), ages 9-11, and ages 12-14. Cloverbuds ages do not get judged against each other in 4-H events but do have to present their rabbits just like the older youth. This helps the youth to learn about presentations and demonstrations through the practice of showing. All of the youth did an outstanding job with the showing of their rabbits and the care of their rabbits up through show time.

Youth in the rabbit club are lead by 4-H volunteer leader Preston Mashburn with assistance from co-leader Calvin Mashburn. The rabbit club also helped with the petting zoo at the fair to help expose other youth to the wonderful world of farm animals. Some youth after watching the rabbit show signed up that day to start coming to the meetings and learning more about showing and caring for rabbits.
