The newly formed Mountain Folk Center Farmer’s Market of Cherokee County hosted a hot dog supper on April 30, 2015 at the Mountain Folk Center in Murphy, N.C. This farmer driven market is scheduled to open May 23, the hours are from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mountain Folk Center, located at 9275 US Hwy 64 West in Murphy, N.C. An interested group of farmers and craft vendors started their quest in February to provide a market for locally grown produce and locally made mountain crafts. Their dream was to use the Mountain Folk Center as the site for the market, hoping to provide local growers and crafters with a covered area that to sell local wares. There were 25 people in attendance expressing their support and interest in participating in the county farmer’s market. Although the market will be located on county property, it will be a self sustaining entity providing a service for the community by community residents. Don Dempsey was elected as the market manager and Happy Spurling is the acting Secretary/Treasurer. Booths will be rented for $10.00 per space with the money being put back into the maintenance of the facility and the running of the market. Interested growers are encouraged to call 828-644-0763 and artisans should call 828-837-5752. This is a dedicated and excited group putting all their energies into making the Mountain Folk Center Farmer’s Market a blooming success!fm4fm3
