Getting Started With Beekeeping

— Written By

The latest Beginning Farmer webinars through Michigan State University being held at the Mountain Folk Center highlighted beekeeping for beginners.  Ben Phillips with Michigan State University did an excellent job providing a presentation titled “Getting Started with beekeeping for pollination and honey“.  The information provided the basic information needed in getting started with beekeeping.  The spreadsheet on cost to get started will give anyone interested an excellent estimate.  Other resources provided included characteristics of some diseases and pests; problems and quick fixes; pollination agreements and contracts, fun facts and much more.  The next session will be “Getting Started with Value Added Agriculture” Wednesday, February 18 form 7-9 PM at the Mountain Folk Center. Do not forget another great source for beginning beekeepers is the Appalachian Beekeepers Association.
